Okay, so let’s say that you have the pleasure of having a book coming out soon- trust me, I know all about how exciting that is! But you want to be ready for it, right? So today I’m going to talk to you about a few things you can do to make sure you’re ready for when your book is coming out.
9. Decide if you’re going to have a party
Be it online or in person. Decide if you’re going to have a party to celebrate your book coming out.
8. Make sure social media is up to date
Like, you know… make sure you have a blog. I don’t know anyone who decides they need to work on their blog when their book is about to come out (let’s face it, we all know I’m talking about myself)
Be it Facebook, Twitter, or whatever it is the kids use these days- make sure you’re up to date on it and putting content on it- that way you can tell people about your book when it comes out.
7. Take some pictures
Take pictures for when you’re building hype. Have pictures of your book being featured on the publishers main page? Take a picture (to put on your social media)
6. Send out review/promo requests
The best way to build hype about your book is to reach out to readers. People who read book review blogs to begin with, right?
Bookbloggerlist.com is a great place for this- but I’ll do another blog post to give you all the details on how I score book review/promos when I have an upcoming book.
5. Take some time for yourself
It’s going to be a crazy few weeks, months, years (Whatever) so make sure you’re taking some time for yourself during everything.
4. Back to business
Yes, I just told you to take some time for yourself, but it’s important to keep working on your stuff and on you. Make sure you’re writing, make sure you’re reaching out to bloggers. Make sure you’re still giving it your all!
3. Set up a media kit
I cannot tell you how much easier having a media kit makes your life. I put it off for a very long time, and it was one of the biggest things I did wrong. It takes a few seconds, really, and it will save you so much time. You just send that off to anyone who says they will feature something from you and then you don’t have to think about it any more.
2. Get some graphics and promo stuff
It doesn’t have to be anything crazy fancy. It can just be your cover art, or it can be super detailed, amazing stuff. Just have something to include in your media kit. It doesn’t have to be digital. It could be post cards, business cards, book marks- anything.
1. Rember that you did awesome
In order to be going through all the stress of getting ready for your book to come out, that means you made a huge leap. It means that you are getting your book published (Self or not, idc) and this is a big deal- so remember that you did awesome and you are awesome for doing this.
